| If so, SleepCare can help! A recent Gallup Poll found that 65 million American adults, more than one-third of the population, have trouble with their sleep. To date, more than 100 sleep disorders have been identified, affecting both sexes and all races and age groups. The effects of sleep disorders range from mere annoyances to those that are life threatening. Sleep disorders have been found to pay a role in high blood pressure, heart disease, poor work performance and strained family relationships. They can not only affect your health, but can interfere with a happy and productive life. That's where SleepCare comes in. A sleep study at one of our convenient locations can tell your physician what she or he needs to know in order to diagnose and treat your sleeping problem. We help you find relief for the symptoms and disorders that have such a negative impact on your sleeping, as well as your waking hours. We combine the latest technology with a home-like atmosphere. Prior to your visit to SleepCare, you'll first meet with your physician who will take a medical history and perform a physical exam. This will help determine whether you can benefit from a nighttime sleep study. You'll discuss the physical and emotional factors that could be affecting your sleep. You are also welcome to take a tour of SleepCare's facilities and see the bedroom suites where sleep studies take place. If it is determined that you could benefit from a nighttime study, you'll find that our bedroom suites are comfortable and private - much more like a guest room than a typical hospital room. You may want to spend some time in our patient lounge, where you'll find patient education materials, a television and VCR, and videotapes. Or, if you wish, you may bring a book to read in the lounge or in your room. All centers offer bathroom and shower facilities and most offer a kitchen with refrigerator and microwave oven. All of these amenities are part of our overall patient-oriented environment, designed to reduce the stress so often associated with medical tests. The sleep technician will be located in a separate room, and will record your sleep through monitors placed on your skin. Also, a small video camera will tape your sleep study. What can a night of testing tell us? It provides us with a comprehensive record of your sleep patterns, leg movements, blood oxygen levels, heart rhythm, breathing and snoring. Your test results are promptly evaluated by the SleepCare physician, who will forward them to your personal physician, along with a diagnosis and recommendations for treatment. SleepCare is dedicated solely to the study of sleep disorders. We stress your needs and concerns - which means

| IS YOUR CHILD GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP? If not, we can help!
If you answered yes to some of the above questions, your child could have Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The American Academy of Pediatrics, based on several studies in children, states the incidence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea is 3% in children aged 2 to 8 years. Studies in children have documented that children with sleep disorders tend to have behavioral problems similar to those children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. A recent study in first grade students, found that 18% of the students in the lowest 10% of the class academically had obstructive sleep apnea. Treatment of the obstructive sleep apnea led to a significant improvement in school performance. In addition, growth hormone secretion may be impaired due to disrupted sleep at night in children with obstructive sleep apnea. Treatment of obstructive sleep apnea may lead to a growth spurt. SleepCare offers state-of-the-art sleep facilities geared toward the special needs of children. The rooms are decorated so your child can relax and feel comfortable. In addition, parents are offered sleeping accommodations so they may stay with their child for the overnight sleep study. Your child will have a number of sensors, or electrodes, placed on the surface of their head and skin to record their sleep. These electrodes are painless and easily applied. The nighttime sleep technician, located in a separate room, will constantly monitor your child throughout the night. After the nighttime recording is complete, your child's test results are promptly evaluated by the SleepCare physician who will determine a diagnosis for your child's sleep problem, and recommend treatment. Each SleepCare lab is furnished to provide a comfortable, home-like atmosphere. Our labs are staffed with highly skilled technicians who are experts at analyzing the information gathered by our state-of-the-art equipment. |
